In a recently released video, Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, one of the world’s fastest and costliest cars, can be seen “racing” with a Dassault Rafale fighter jet. The exciting event took place at Dassault Aviation’s headquarters in France.
The 4.5 generation Rafale jets are used by the air forces of Egypt, Qatar, France with Greece being the latest to join this league.
Bugatti’s Chiron Pur Sport model has an 8.0-liter W16 engine with a capacity of 1,500 hp and 1,600 Nm of torque. Its competitor, a French Navy Rafale is a twin-engine fighter capable of firing various types of weapons.
It is powered by two Snecma 88 turbojet engines each capable of generating around 58,550 newtons of thrust, equivalent to 5,727 hp.
However, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is also the top class in its league. With its 64-valve 16 cylinder engine, the Pur Sport comes with peak torque at just 2,000 rpm right at your fingertips. Only 60 Pur Sports will ever be produced by Bugatti, making it one of the costliest supercars in the market.
It can achieve more than 6,500 rpm- with the redline at 6,900. The car has a much better transmission at its helm, and it is said that Bugatti has spent around $120,000,000 developing the Pur Sport. The major change is the new transmission, providing a 15 percent closer gear-ratio spread benefiting the power band.
Having a top speed of 490 kilometers per hour, it falls woefully short of the Rafale, whose maximum speed comes in the supersonic league. Nevertheless, on the ground, the supercar managed to beat the French superjet in terms of acceleration — no surprise for a platform developed from record-breaking Chiron of fastest 0–400–0 km/h (0–249–0 mph) acceleration time in 2017.
During the race, Chiron Pur Sport reached from 0-100 kmph in just 2.4 seconds, reaching 200 kmph in 6.1 seconds. It subsequently accelerated to 300 kmph in 13 seconds and to 400 kmph in just half a minute.
“I moved away from the Rafale for the first few hundred meters, but after a few hundred more meters, he was about 20 meters above and next to me in the tunes. An incredible and fantastic spectacle,” Pierre-Henri Raphanel, who drove the Bugatti hypercar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
According to the French car-maker, the Chiron is the fastest, most powerful, and exclusive production super sports car in Bugatti’s history.
Its sophisticated design, innovative technology, and iconic, performance-oriented form make it a unique masterpiece of art, form and technique, that pushes boundaries beyond imagination.
