Truly Indigenous: As LCA Tejas Aircraft Nears Production, Local UP Firm To Provide Essential Fittings

As India ventures into consolidating the field of indigenous manufacturing, the Indian city of Prayagraj, famously known as ‘Sangam City’ will be providing essentials for the making of the advanced LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets, Times of India reported.

The company, Naini Aerospace Limited based at Prayagraj has been entrusted by the Hindustan Aerospace Limited (HAL), the prime manufacturer of the LCA, to provide looms for the new Tejas. The company had already been providing looms for Tejas Mk-1 jets and Dhruv helicopters.

Looms are the bunch of cables running around in the aircraft to support avionics and fly-by-wire controls, bypassing electronic signals and other commands. The HAL is expecting to receive an order for 83 LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets from the Indian Air Force by the year-end.

Rajnikanth Mishra, CEO of Naini Aerospace said “Tejas 1A fighter aircraft would represent self-sufficient India. The light combat aircraft will be completely indigenous and the factory has started preparations for making looms of new fighter jets of Tejas series.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared the Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets as an essential addition to the IAF fleet, stressing on the project of ‘Aatmnirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).
