United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human rights Agnes Callamard has expressed serious concern over Indian atrocities, killings and violation of freedom of expression in Occupied Kashmir.

Replying to a question at a news conference in New York, Callamard said during the past month she communicated with Indian authorities giving specific details about victims and their perpetrators but the quality of responses has been poor.
The communication blackout imposed after the revocation of Article 370 has entered third month. With no mobiles and internet services, it is the worst communications lockdown the Valley has seen in decades. And it has started to take a toll of the Valley’s economy.
Scores of people risk losing their jobs as IT-related firms are at the verge of shutting down permanently. Kashmir’s biggest software park in Rangret area, which houses majority IT-related companies in the state, wears a deserted look.

It is not just the IT sector, other areas have also been severely affected. There have been job losses in sectors like tourism as well. Most hotels have been shut down and they have laid off scores of employees as uncertainty prevails.
The tourism season in the Valley was completely ruined this year as the government issued an advisory asking visitors to leave just before the abrogation of Article 370 was announced.
The Modi government declared the abolition of Article 370 in the Parliament on August 5. New Delhi also announced that Jammu and Kashmir state would be divided into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Valley was put under complete lockdown before the revelation. While the curbs have been eased out since then, but the crisis continues and it has entered into the third month.
