Russia has offered assistance to Italy in its fight to contain the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated by Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov to Russian news agency – emphasizing that the situation is very severe in Italy.
Earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte. The Kremlin press office said that the Putin reassured him of Moscow’s willingness to quickly provide necessary assistance to the disaster-hit country. In particular, Moscow offered mobile vehicles mounted on Kamaz trucks for spraying disinfectants besides providing medical and other vital types of equipment.

“As you know, Italy is facing a totally severe epidemiological situation. When taking a decision to help the Italian Republic, Putin was primarily guided by humanitarian consideration,” Peskov said.
Russian Aerospace Forces’ aircraft are ready to dispatch teams of virologists and medical equipment to coronavirus-affected Italy starting on Sunday, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday. “As soon as Italy is ready, the Russian Aerospace Forces’ military transport aircraft will jet eight mobile teams of Russian military virologists and doctors, vehicles for aerosol disinfection of transport and territories, as well as medical equipment,” the defence ministry said.

Earlier, on March 21, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed aid delivery in a phone call with his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Guerini. “During the call, Guerini confirmed willingness to accept the Russian assistance.
Guerini has also expressed his gratitude towards Russia for aid on fighting the pandemic, promptly provided in accordance with the agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced in a live address on Facebook on Saturday that Italy shuts down all factories, which do not produce the basic necessities. “We decided to shut down all production, keeping only the production of essential goods,” Conte said.
