Almost all nations have expressed their desire to help India and Pakistan to ease out their border tensions including Russia. Russian Prime Minister called up his Indian counterpart and stated that Moscow is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan in order to calm tensions between the two countries, said the Russian officials.

During the telephonic conversation between the two leaders, Indian Prime Minister Modi repeated India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in countering terrorism. “Modi thanked Putin for Russia’s steadfast support for India’s efforts to protect its interests against cross-border terror attacks”, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Russian government officials also emphasised saying,” Russia is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan to try to calm tensions between the two nuclear powers”.
Responding to if Russia was ready to help mediate between the two countries, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted by media firm as saying: “If they want this, then of course.”
At the 16th RIC Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia India and China in Wuzhen, the three countries had said that those who back terrorism must be brought to justice.
Russian’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova informed reporters saying, “We are concerned about the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan and the dangerous manoeuvring of the two countries’ armed forces near the line of control, which risks direct military clashes.”
Russian Diplomat, Lavrov spoke to Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of an event in China after which he said:” he hoped tensions could be de-escalated and that both countries would show restraint”.
“President Putin restated the invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok later this year. The Prime Minister welcomed the invitation and underlined the significance of growing economic cooperation, including in the Russian Far East, between the two countries”, the PMO’s statement added.
