Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said US President Donald Trump assured Imran Khan that he would visit Pakistan soon during a meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos.

In a series of tweets, the foreign minister termed the third meeting between the two leaders ‘good’ and added they discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship. He added that there was a special focus on trade and investment.

Elaborating on the meeting between Khan and Trump, Qureshi said the meeting lasted an hour and several “important issues” were discussed with Trump and his “entire team”.
Referring to the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list, Qureshi said PM Imran informed the US side of Islamabad’s efforts and further asked for relaxation of US travel advisory on Pakistan. The meeting also discussed the issue of Kashmir and the US president agreed that “there should be a solution” for the decades-long dispute.

The prime minister also conveyed Islamabad’s concerns over increasing tensions in the Persian Gulf region and the impact any conflict would have on Pakistan.
Also shared Pakistan's perspective on Afghan peace & reconciliation process, as well as Pakistan’s efforts for de-escalation in ME region. PM Khan reiterated all sides should exercise maximum restraint and that diplomacy is the way forward to permanent peace. 3/3

An end to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan was also discussed during the meeting.

As for India, Donald Trump’s prospective visit would also boost Washington’s support for India’s moves in Jammu and Kashmir amid anti-Modi rhetoric by a section of Democrats. Earlier there were speculations that Trump could visit India for 2019 Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest which, however, did not fructify for a variety of reasons including the State of Union address.
