The Indian Army retaliated to unprovoked firing by Pakistani Army in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in which at least three Pakistan army personnel were killed and two others were injured according to the Indian side. The exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistan army took place after both sides recently exchanged Diwali sweets.

According to reports by Indian media, Pakistan army’s provocative actions came within hours of exchange of Diwali sweets by the India-Pakistan troops in Poonch district.
Meanwhile, five civilians have been injured in Pakistan controlled Kashmir due to “unprovoked” firing by Indian troops across the restive Line of Control (LoC), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Pakistan army has confirmed the killing of its one soldier. However, according to Indian Media, at least three Pakistani soldiers were killed ad and two others injured. Indian retaliation was required to prevent infiltration bid by the militants, which they were planning to undertake under the cover of Pakistani firing.
Sources said late last night, Pakistan army targeted forward posts of Army in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district and tried to push infiltrators under the cover of firing and darkness. India troops immediately retaliated, leading to exchange of fire.
An Inter-State Public Relations (ISPR) Pakistan official handout confirmed the killing of a Pakistani trooper, whom it identified as Sepoy Zaheer Ahmad. It admitted that the Army jawan was killed in Thub sector opposite Nowshera in Rajouri district during the heavy exchange of firing.
Pakistan army was likely to increase infiltration efforts by the militants in the month of November as the snowfall will close some of the infiltration routes in December. There have been reports that a large number of militants have been camping at launching pads on Pakistan side of the LoC, waiting for the right moment to infiltrate.
