After Drills With Indian Navy, US Aircraft Carrier Ronald Reagan Has A New Mission In The Arabian Sea

After drills with the Indian Navy, US aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan has been relocated to the Arabian Sea to support the ongoing withdrawal of the military from Afghanistan, the US Naval Institute (USNI) reported on Friday.

The USS Ronald Reagan had only finished its drills with the Indian Navy and will be taking place of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower strike group that has been operating in the region since April, USNI reported.

The last time a US aircraft carrier was moved from Japan to the Middle East was during the invasion of Iraq in 2003 when the now-decommissioned USS Kitty Hawk carrier was routed to the region.

The decision to relocate a US Navy carrier to the Middle East comes amid the reports of increasing Taliban attacks against Afghan government forces as the US is in the midst of its military being withdrawn from Afghanistan, which is expected to be completed before September 11.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Ambassador to Russia Said Tayeb Jawad told Sputnik that the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan is irresponsible toward the war-ravaged country’s citizens as it is being done without taking into account the situation on the ground.

“Probably not [responsible], when it comes to the Afghans,” Jawad said, when asked about the US pullout.

At the same time, the ambassador admitted that Washington’s actions corresponded to the US people’s lack of interest in continuing the war.

“I think that the decision was made without having proper consultations and taking into account the situation in Afghanistan. The US domestic politics is responsible for that decision,” Jawad added.

The United States and the Taliban signed a peace agreement in February 2020. Among other things, the deal stipulated the withdrawal of foreign armed forces from Afghanistan in exchange for the Taliban abating violence and guaranteeing that the country will not turn into a safe haven for terrorists.
