Pulwama Suicide Attacks: At-least 44 CRPF jawans have been killed and over 40 injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast when a suicide bomber rammed his Scorpio car laden with 350 kg of explosives into a CRPF convoy in Awantipora town of Pulwama district on Thursday.
The bus was blown up by an improvised explosive device, or IED, on Srinagar-Jammu highway in Awantipora area of the district. The attack, which took place in Goripora area of Awantipora in Pulwama district, was followed by gunshots.
Police suspect that a vehicle-borne IED was used in the Pulwama attack. Dilbag Singh, the chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, said that a suicide attack was suspected.

According to sources, a car rigged with an IED crashed into the CRPF bus when the convoy was making its away was passing through the Goripora section of the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. A spokesperson of the banned terrorist organisation said: “dozens of forces’ vehicles were destroyed in the attack”.
Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah reacted to the “terrible news”. “A number of CRPF soldiers are reported to have been killed & injured in an IED blast. I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. My prayers for the injured & condolences to the families of the bereaved,” Abdullah said in a tweet.
