Indian, Chinese Army Clash In Ladakh; Matter Diffused But Not Resolved

The Indian and the Chinese Army indulged in a face-off in Ladakh on Wednesday given their territorial claims over the region. In the newly designated Himalayan territory of Ladakh, both India and China claim more than 130 square kilometres of the area leading to conflict stands on the region’s autonomy.

The Indian Army stated that the face-off between the two sides was settled down after a delegation-level meeting between the two neighbouring Asian countries. The army further explained that the misconception and the difference of perception in the understanding of Line of Actual control often becomes the reason why such standoffs.

According to reports, tensions flared up when Indian personnel patrolling the LAC were confronted by troops of the People’s Liberation Army – resulting in both sides calling for reinforcements. In order to defuse tensions, the two sides conducted delegation-level talks, claimed the Indian Army

The Line of Actual control separates the Indian administered Kashmir from the past of Kashmir administered by China.

This standoff comes around a month ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping – the two are expected to discuss LAC stability and trade ties.

In 2017, a source in New Delhi, who had been briefed on the military situation on the border, said soldiers foiled a bid by a group of Chinese troops to enter Indian territory in Ladakh, near the Pangong lake.

Some of the Chinese soldiers carried iron rods and stones, and troops on both sides suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, the source said.

China’s Defence Ministry has yet to comment on the matter. The two sides have frequently accused each other of territorial intrusions, but clashes are rare.
